Thank you Triad Retirement Living Association. It was an honor to share my stories--25 million more to be told!
"Triad Retirement Living Association is an organization of senior service industry professionals. We are the “chamber of commerce” of the senior industry, with a mission to educate and serve our community in senior retirement services."
What is the biggest risk for Alzheimer's disease? The answer might surprise you--old age. This appears to suggest that a cumulative effect of related biologic processes may be the key for a definitive pathogenesis of the disease. We do have correlations for risk and protective factors that interact throughout our lifespan. Look to the work of Dale Bredesen, MD to review the Metabolic Enhancement for Neurodegeneration (MEND) protocol.
The risk factors include obesity, diabetes, high total cholesterol, but perhaps we aren't paying enough attention to prevention. Lifestyle factors are modifiable and include optimal values for supplementation--not just minimal standards.
Social determinants of health describe how we live. Certain behaviors are modifiable and worthy of societal investment and support, such as, nutrition, education, housing, sense of security, activity, socialization (social isolation is a risk factor) and a variety of psychosocial and environmental factors.
